Welcome to The Galletta's Karting Club!
Why spend $3,000-$6,000 +fees to race
a go-kart competitively?
Why not try a $300-$600 kart and be able to race like this
for free all season?
Please watch some of our 50 newest DVD Highlight Reel videos via YouTube. We have over 100 up on
Galletta's Karting Club, located
in Oswego, NY, is a go-kart racing club that specializes on
racing as professionally as we can for as economically as
possible. We developed a style of kart racing that is different,
but no less competitive than any national karting organization.
Our
biggest difference is affordability. Our club is free to join
and race in, and the only thing anybody pays for is gas and
parts. We are the largest and longest-
running
dirt karting class in the local area, as we were founded in
the early 1990s and our average feature is 45-Laps usually
consisting of 10-15 karts, with a
200-Lap "Klassic" Championship
at Summer's end deciding an Annual Points Champion. We race
homemade 1-Wheel-Drive racing karts that can race on professional
karting tracks and backyard speedways alike. We have karts
rebuilt from used racing chassis, used yard karts and some
built from scratch. We have ONE class to ensure a true overall
track champion, and not have several smaller classes of divisional
champions with no clear winner. We race used 5hp Briggs Flathead
motors fueled by pump gas, sped-up by hand-shaved heads, and
regulated by stock Fun Power-type carburetors instead of expensive
prefabricated 2-WD chassis powered by high-priced methanol-fueled
motors. On our own backyard oval speedway, we turn clockwise
with our top speeds approximately 45-50MPH. Although we all
run in the same division, in addition to a minimum weight
requirement, we have something unique to our inclusive class
-- a weight-to-power-allowance scale to allow heavier drivers
more horsepower via stronger racing cams and more powerful
gear ratios, a system proven to be successful as we have the
tightest competition and most varied winner's circle locally
over the last few years. This way our one class is bigger,
almost as fast, and more competitive than the higher-priced
karting classes, because heavier and lighter drivers can race
equally and having the same chance of winning as the next
guy. Racing experience, starting position, and a little bit
of luck usually decides the outcome, and money and kart price
play no role. To ensure this, we have an expert motor builder
-- club cofounder Matt Stevens - who oversees that all of
the motors are legal, equalized, and competitive, and does
so for no cost - just to have people to race with! Join us
and find out what many people, including semipro drivers from
local racetracks say - we have the most fun and spend the
least money of likely any competitive motorsport class in
the world! Just because the track is not located behind a
famous race track, and the karts don't cost over a grand doesn't
mean this isn't real racing with talented drivers and excellent
competition. Earn your karting "street cred" at
Galletta's. Enjoy! ATTENTION:
New drivers wanted!
You are invited to join the club! We are the longest-running,
largest, most affordable and most competitive karting organization
in the area, but due to a handful of our weekly veterans selling
their karts and/or retiring in the offseason, there are several
karts that sit idle every weekend in need of good drivers'
butts in their seats to race them every Sunday. Several race-ready
karts sit at trackside, and in all of Oswego - supposedly
a racing fan town with alleged aspiring drivers - we have
more competitive, race-ready karts on the sidelines than on
the track. Stop being pussies and race, sons. New drivers
are invited, and vets who have missed out this year are as
well. 1st-Timer rookies are allowed to schedule rookie races
during the week to get ready for the regular races, but we
do prefer Sunday before the regular race itself.
| Our races are every Summer Sunday evening and switch to Fall Fridays and/or Fall Saturdays. We race on nominal donations. We have several feature-winning arrive-and-drive "Galletta's" karts that are available to drive in a race (consisting of anywhere between 45-70 laps) for $25 (covers gas, engine wear and part wear). If you have your own kart with matching specs to our club, there is a $5 donation (covers gas, water, lights, and truck use in prepping the track) to race. Again, the donations operate the over a dozen karts, and the parts, gas, electricity, lights, and water for the weekly operation of the track. |
We race every Sunday in the Summer (June through August, but switch to every-other-Saturday/Fridays/occasional Sundays in the Fall through November). Regular "Summer Season Point Series" ends with Klassic 200-Lapper that determines the points and Klassic Championships of the track, and erratic post-Klassic races are "Fall Bonus Point Challenge races that only count for the All-Time points, but not the summer series. Drivers should come on time or early to help get the track and karts ready to race.
Races are free to watch, but all spectators must stay at least 10 feet away from the track, not in the "hot" pits, and/or in back of a solid object when karts are on the track. People are invited to join us racing, but you must understand basic racing rules, have full body and full helmet protection, and obey and respect all rules and regulations of the property owner, flaggers, kart owners, and your fellow karting competitors - with veteran and regular drivers taking more seniority over newbies.

10/6/2012: 17th Annual Championship 200-Lap Race
STARTING GRID TO THE 17TH ANNUAL GALLETTA'S GREENHOUSE KARTING KLASSIC 200 FROM 10/6/2012:
Guess who won the tremendous 200-lap battle!? Yeeaah, beaotches!
The complicated story will be told on the page when all of the points are sorted. In short, the race was highly competitive throughout, with Brian Galletta, Kyle Reuter, Randy Platt, Matt Stevens, and Chris Stevens all leading significant portions of the 200-lapper with karts easily fast enough to get the win. But late in the game, controversy struck with five laps to go! Although Chris Stevens passed the line in 1st place on lap 200 - which would've sealed him his 2nd straight Klassic 200 victory and put him ahead of his brother Matt for the 2012 points title - the race win was lifted. Why? Well, Matt Stevens and Mary Stevens both deeply protested the fact that Matt needlessly and voluntarily went to the rear of the field after he and Chris were battling back and forth for the lead through traffic and bumped the Dave Spanfelner #54 off track during their battle with 5 laps to go. The race was then declared no winner, and Ogie Stevens stepped up to the winning kart and took credit for the win. It is Ogie's 1st career win of any kind, although he claims that he has won everything he's ever tried, including things that he never knew he even was trying. Due to the controversy, the likely decision will Chris and Matt technically tie (with nobody else losing a position), but will split 1st (Chris' final position) and 6th (Matt's final position)'s points. With this being the case, Matt holds on to the points lead and takes the 2012 Galletta's Track Championship. Oh, that tricky Matthew, stealing wins even after he didn't win! ;) PAGE IS FULLY UPDATED!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, 2012: Also known as, "Now THAT'S A Better Buske! SUNDAY, AUGUST
19th, 2012:
Per
usual in Mid-August
at Galletta's, we have
a mid-summer lull in
driver turnout. Only
ten drivers showed this
past Sunday, but, per
usual, this did not

most of the feature!
But at the end of the

who emerged in first
at the end, winning
his fourth feature win

MONDAY,
AUGUST 13th, 2012: Sunday saw, for the
second week in a row, a monsoon-like downpour
turn turn 2 into a small lake--but this time DURING
the race--and again was postponed for Monday.
The first feature saw Randy Platt break in the
lead which set up Chris and Matt Stevens battling
for the win (with Chris getting him by a wheel).
The 2nd feature saw Randy Platt extract sweet
revenge on all with a win, but not before his
"hip bar" broke (the left side of our
seats, which is essentially what you ride in a
1-WD Galletta-kart) which led to an exciting close
race! READ

WEDNESDAY,
AUGUST 8th, 2012: To make up for a couple rain-dates
we've lost and the fact that one of our regular racers is
moving south for a while and may miss most of if not the rest
of the year, we held a special mid-week Twin 30s night. Joe
Sereno FINALLY did not break while leading the race
to win the first 30-lapper. The second one saw the returning
Randy Platt dominate most of the race until Matt Stevens caught
him in traffic late. Now... Matt usually is unbeatable once
he takes the lead, but with two laps to go, his brother Chris
caught him sleeping on a restart to take his own 2nd feature
win in three nights, and keeping hope alive in terms of keeping
Matt within distance in the points race! As for the race descriptions,

8/6/2012: "Brotherly Love" - Raindate Make-up Twin-30s
MONDAY,
AUGUST 6th, 2012: Sunday saw a monsoon-like downpour
turn turn 2 into a small lake, so the race was postponed for
Monday. Another good show was in store, but that crafty lil'
Matt Stevens pulled out another win by trapping his fellow
competitors behind early-leader Dave Spanfelner and not looking
back. The 2nd feature saw Chris Stevens and Joe Sereno battle
back and forth, but Joe was able to execute the pass on Adam
Lytle for the lead around the half-way point. Then, he broke.
Again. Chris Stevens took the rest of the laps for his first
feature win since the 2011 Klassic 200-Lapper. And when the
victory photos were being taken... a long-lost karter decided
to call... and announce his return for the next race! READ

SUNDAY,
JULY 29th, 2012: After we took a week off (the property
owner was not feeling well and we all decided it was going
to be better to take a week off for her sake), the racing
resumed at Galletta's Speedway for our Annual HarBOREfest
Championship. And Softy McSoft Pants Justin Galletta (formerly
known as Justin "Hard As F***" Beiber "The
Credit Carder" Galletta) couldn't make it because he's
in love, so we named the race after him in a loving tribute.
And what a race it was, with lots of passing and action. But
damn it all... that crafty Matty-Joey Stevens did it again.
He just wins, and wins often. Yeah, Matt, you are already
the all-time leader in feature wins in all of Oswego County,
you don't have to rub it in. Anyways, Mighty Matt, posing
here with his wife Melissa, flexed for you all to let you
know that you can't beat him. Yaawwwnn... As for the race,

SUNDAY,

members of the Galletta's Karting Club - got his first feature
win in eight years by winning the 2nd 30-Lapper in his Plattitude

And even though Dave Spanfelner, Matt Stevens, and Chris Stevens
all almost took the win in the first feature, it was Melissa
Stevens who evaded several spinning and wrecking karts to
take it in her Scissor's-n-Fur #19. The
story is coming soon....
7/8/2012: Twin 30s Night (w/Father-&-Son Love)

SUNDAY,
JULY 8th, 2012: Father and son - Tim and Justin Galletta
- took the eleven-competitor twin-30 features at Galletta's,
finally breaking their cousin Matt's furious streak of FOUR
straight wins to open the 2012 season. It was (driving his
own Galletta #54) Tim's seventh feature win in his four year
career, while his son Justin took the Galletta's Greenhouse
#7 and secured his second feature win in just his second season.
And both look stronger and stronger with each race. Here
is the story....
7/1/2012: 17th Annual GKC Independence Day 45

SUNDAY,
JULY 1st, 2012: WTH. I mean.. seriously. I mean,
every week, we know what Matt's going to try to do. And we
can't stop him. No matter what kart he drives, he is able
to run a lower groove than his fellow competitors, stay out
of entanglements, and pick up wins. For the 1st time ever
in our club's history, we have the same person win four straight
to open the season, and it is the undisputedly winningest
karter in the local area and likely points beyond - Matt Stevens
(yes, people at the lil' track out back downtown may think
they're the $#!t until they look at Matt's track record and
that he's been winning kart races since before most of them
were born, and before the track they race at even existed.
They may even write us off as unsanctioned "yard karts"
with weird rules on specs that don't adhere to WKA/NKA guidelines.
But just remember... real men don't race in the missionary
position... and the ones that do wuss out against Matt, so
the locals who do not show up on raceday forfeit by default).
If this were any other track, he'd be booed out of town. But,
let's step back a bit... it isn't like he is utterly dominating
anybody this season - although he has done that in past years.
Rather, he is being challenged every race by people the same
speed, and sometimes a little more. He just gets to the front
being the crafty (and sometimes lucky) lil' driver that he
is and keeps taking that checker. How'd he do it this time?
That's what this website is for. Here
is the story....
6/23/2012: The Brian
Almost Had It 50 60 Lapper?!

SATURDAY,
JUNE 23rd, 2012: That gosh darn it all to heck Matty-Joey.
Already he is a class above all Oswego area karters (yes,
that includes the other tracks) with his experience and win
totals (racing more years that some local racers have been
alive, more years than other tracks have been open, and having
more wins than countless of the other leading racers combined
have), and many have been hard-earned/"damn-it-he's-good"
wins, but he wins some where he just doesn't really deserve
them as much as another driver... they just fall into his
lap anyway! This was another one. Brian Galletta deserved
to win this one. He has raced for years - being one of the
original members of the club that his cousins founded - with
only one regular feature win to his credit (that
happened so long ago--2004--most of us forgot about it, including
himself, and a second
"All-Galletta" race where it was technically
a rookie race where he was the only experience driver on the
track at the time). He had been fast in prior
Klassics. And tonight, he led fifty four of the first
fifty-six laps, and at times pulled away from the pack. But
then here comes Matt. Now keep in mind, Matt hears the rumors
that some people actually have the gall to believe that Matt's
karts are just better than the rest and he rigs it. When he
hears this, he gets pretty peeved off considering that he
often spends more money on and more time repairing everyone
else's karts (usually they are slow, and he helps speed them
up for them! Yes, that's right... he helps speed up his competition!)
and often neglects his own (like in
the opener, he gassed visitor's karts while his own was not
gassed since last year and he ran out of gas in the lead!).
So, he likes to prove naysayers wrong and hops into a kart
that everyone else says sucks and can't win. Something that
Kyle Reuter also has done.
Then he proceeds to smoke them in said kart. Oops, Matt did
it again. Here
is the tale...
6/17/2012: 17th Annual Father's Day 45

SUNDAY,
JUNE 17TH, 2012: That darn Matty-Joey. Matt may not
have been the fastest kart on the track. Maybe not even the
2nd fastest. But he was the craftiest, and used his patented
slingshot maneuvers to sneak by faster karts and win the 2nd
half of the postponed 2012 Opener (that grew to 16 karts),
and the 13-kart/45-lap Father's Day 45. He's still the most
dominant force in Oswego County karting by far, for the seventeeth
year. Here
is the story....
6/10/2012: 17th Annual Opener

SUNDAY,
JUNE 10TH, 2012: As most of our fans, followers and
racers know, our season usually starts the first Sunday in
June annually. For 17 years, this has been the case, as the
founders of the club, Matt and Chris Stevens - work at Galletta's
Greenhouse and can't get the karts and track ready until then.
Even then, it is reeeaaallly pushing it, and things are always
rushed. However, our original date of Sunday, June 3rd, 2012
was rained out (technically, it rained too much on Friday
and Saturday for the track to dry out suitably despite a nice
day). Then, we hit several snags that delayed us further today,
and the race was only half completed, ready to resume before
next Sunday's race. Here is the story....
2011 Gas Flathead Karting World Championship
Our season thus far at Galletta's has been action-packed, competitive, clean, and fun. Instead of blowing a few grand to be herded on and off a pay track racing for stickers, we do it for the fun and have these cool videos and website to star on. Below is the total point standings so far this year, followed by the complete rundown of every race we've had thus far at Galletta's Greenhouse Backyard Speedway. This season had the top six spots all in play going into the Klassic, with Tim Galletta within 20 points of his cousins Chris and Matt, but Matt and Chris spent so much time in the top 3 positions that they pulled away at the end, and Matt led so many laps - in fact two laps that made the difference - in the Klassic that clinched the title even though Chris won the 200. That is close, folks. The Klassic alters the landscape of the points dramatically, which is why your goal is to be in every race, if you miss a couple, use a retcon makeup race, and *never* miss the Klassic - THE undisputed most important single karting race in Central New York, bar none (needs no trophies or cash prizes, just the prestige of the 16+ year annual marathon event). The 2011 season's races are complete, the All-Time Points were tallied 11/2011.
THE 16th ANNUAL GALLETTA'S KARTING KLASSIC 200!
Our
16th Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200-Lap
Championship -
Saturday, October 8th, 2011:
SATURDAY,OCTOBER 8th, 2011: A grueling
200 laps. But yours truly - webmaster Chris Stevens
- broke a 10-year dry-spell by winning his first Galletta's
Greenhouse Karting Klassic since 2001 (while running
almost on fumes)! It was not easy, as he time trialed
5th, and had to come from the back of the field twice
when he blew a tire in 2nd early, then clobbered a tree
in 2nd late. But everything fell his way when the leader
of the first 157 laps of the race,
Matt
Stevens, decided to refuel putting Chris in
the lead with barely sputtering off enough fumes to
get him the win with Matt all over him. Several competitors
didn't finish the marathon event, and the closeness
of competition made this the HARDEST Klassic
to date, with tough competition form first to last,
including 2010 defending Klassic Champ Kyle Reuter
(who lost a front wheel while in 2nd himself, crashed
into the buckwheat in turn 2 and retired). For most
of the first 100 laps, Kyle pressured Matt to set a
fast pace, which in the end was the deciding factor
that forced Matt to refuel with 43 laps to go, which
put Chris - who made it back to 2nd for a third time
in the race - in the lead. Chris actually benefited
from blowing a tire early and conserving gas in the
rear during the 2nd 4th of the race, which led to him
having enough gas to take the checker, the first time
the Galletta's #8 kart won a Klassic - Chris' previous
Klassic wins came in the Galletta's #2 (1999) and Galletta's
#5 (2000 & 2001). Chris has had several close calls
in those last ten years (many 2nd and 3rd places, and
a few bad luck breaks while up front in position to
win). Outstanding show from start to finish with some
close racing and a few exciting accidents to keep you
viewers satisfied. Complete race videos on DVD only
$5 each disc and are ready. Meanwhile, here is a recap
of the 2011 season thus far, including the 2011 Finalized
Point Standings, where Matt Stevens led enough laps
in the Klassic to earn enough bonus points to surpass
his brother by two points! This after Chris had enough
top-3 points to beat Matt by 1/2 point in 2010! And
consider that going into Klassic, the top 6 were all
up for grabs That's racing, folks!
9/17/2011: A F***ed-Up 45

SATURDAY,
SEPTEMBER 17th, 2011: In a day that saw the
start time change from 4pm to 5pm to 6pm and finally
7pm as we scrambled to get the Platt-inum #28 race-ready
for intended buyer Brian Galletta (only to see it
break the drive-wheel right off at the axle bolt during
the race... ugh), and the a twin-35 night get turned
to twin-30s and then finally a single 45, we just
had a long, weird race day, intended to be the last
regular show before Klassic (unless our schedule changes,
and right now it is OPEN to include as many drivers
as possible on a Saturday with a Sunday raindate).
It finished with Joe Sereno dominating only to lose
a throttle cable in the lead and Randy Platt hold
off everybody else in the extremely close and competitive
45-lapper. Pics, descriptions, points and videos all
coming, but the webmaster being busy with work and
being slightly sleep deprived is slowing all this
stuff down! SEPTEMBER

9/11/2011: 9-11 Memorial - A Fiery 50?!

SUNDAY,
SEPTEMBER 11th, 2011: On the 10th anniversary
of the worst attack in America's history, we dedicate
our special Sunday afternoon race in honor of the
people who lost their lives in the attacks and inn
the following years defending our country's safety
and freedom. The race was worthy of being called
special, with close battles throughout, 2010 defending
Klassic 200 champ Kyle Reuter getting some track
and kart time in in preparation to defend his title
in a few weeks, battles in traffic for the lead,
a 1st-time rookie flipping a kart and starting a
spectacular small fire on the dirt track, and then
at the end it comes down between the three point
leaders battling it out at the end. Click
here for pics, descriptions, and points, now up.

9/4/2011: Post-Oswego Speedway Classic 200 - Labor Day 45

SUNDAY,
SEPTEMBER 4th, 2011: In honor of the
Oswego Speedway's Supermodified Classic 200 -a
race which we shaped our own karting club's season
and 200-lap "Klassic" championship after
- we originally planned to race on Labor Day Monday.
However, due to the Oswego Classic being moved
up three hours to avoid rain, we tried to race
Sunday after Classic knowing that Monday could
very well rain-out our race. Kenny Lindsley III
flew off the track while leading most of the show,
which set up Justin Galletta to lead late. But
on turn 4, Justin's clutch teeth literally gave
out on the spot and his father Tim Galletta took
the Labor Day 45-Lapper! (Oddly, a bit of a mirror
image of Otto Sitterly passing his teammate on
the last turn to win the Oswego Classic 200).
Our own 16th Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting
Klassic 200-lapper (that's right, not a 40-50
Lapper, that's our regular weekly race, not a
championship) will be at either the end of September
or the start of October. Racers - please help
us plan ahead and lock down a good date by giving
us dates that you can and cannot do. Thanks! Pics,
descriptions, results & points are up
soon (my new work schedule has put me WAYY behind...
sorry!). Check back soon for videos!
8/29/2011: "'Don't You Have an Off to F***, Irene?' 50"!

MONDAY,
AUGUST 29th, 2011: 10 competitors raced
karts raced on a Monday due to Hurricane Irene's
leftover winds and rain preventing us from racing
Sunday (no problem, we've been rained out of
a handful of Sundays the last few weeks anyway).
Returning veterans Mike "MC" Howell
and the two Ken Lindsley's added with the the
core group that have raced all year to increase
the competition on an already tough and competitive
season thus far. And it was Chris Stevens spoiled
Randy Platt's plan of putting his freshly reinstated
"Murder 187" kart back in victory
lane, catching him snoozing on a restart in
the Galletta's Greenhouse #8 for his 2nd feature
win of the year. Race results, pictures, stats,
and videos coming when done! Sorry for the delays,
work has been throwing monkeywreches into my
usual duties, such as updating the videos and
website as quick as I'd like. Pics, descriptions,
results & points are up on this
page. Check back soon for videos!
8/22/2011: Monday Night Return of Randy Twin-30s!

MONDAY,
AUGUST 22nd, 2011: With the regularly
scheduled Sunday the 21st getting a washout,
our race was moved to Monday the 22nd. Randy
"The Bobandi" Platt made his triumphant
return from his self-imposed half-summer hiatus
to promptly win his first race back relatively
unchallenged, taking his first feature win
of 2011. The 2nd 30-Lapper saw Chris Stevens
lead the first 27 laps only to break a throttle
cable, and Tim Galletta took care of the final
three en route to his 2nd win of 2011. The
track was smooth and fast, and passes were
at a premium. In a show of how fast and equal
these karts are, the Galletta's #2 has sat
idle for most of the season without a pilot,
until Randy took it to victory lane just like
he did last year. It is no lie, but it seems
as if some people don't believe it when we
say we have 14 race-ready/feature-winning/arrive-and-drive
karts on site, many of which are free to drive,
open to anybody who donates for gas/parts,
and a good, experienced driver can
win in each and any one of them on any given
race. And, we can help you build your own
potent/feature-winning kart as well for bottom
dollar. It is proven and proven again and
again, yet some weeks we don't have driver
butts in the kart seats. Fortunately, this
week was not amongst them, as we had 8 karts
on the track... but do the math - that means
there were several still sitting idle. Get
out and race, people! Our 200-Lapper is coming
soon, and you want to be seasoned for that
one! Anybody can win, but you have to work
at learning the track and the karts to do
so. Join us today! Videos and race
results are up here! Check back soon!
8/17/2011: Tuesday Night Delight - 40-Lap Special!

TUESDAY,
AUGUST 16th, 2011: Now, as many
usual-readers knew, our SUNDAY, AUGUST
14th, 2011 race was postponed.
Not due to rain, as we thought, as we didn't
even get enough to wet the track enough
to race on. It was due to our leader, commanda',
track operator, and head mechanic Matt Stevens
suffering a scratched cornea (that's a part
of the eye, for the dumber of our readers.
Just kidding... none of our readers are
dumb! Just the ones who didn't know and/or
got offended by that, heheh...), which forced
us to postpone our regular racing action.
Why? Well, because unlike any racer in the
area, the one-man racer/pit crew didn't
have enough karts ready to race, nor could
race himself. Oddly enough, the injury occurred
in his sleep of all things. While I (webmaster,
co-founder, fellow racer and brother Chris)
offered to gouge his eye out for him so
he could race with one good one, he - very
agitated - declined. When I offered to run
the races without him since he has a comfortable
lead anyway, my life was... ahem... Um...
endangered. So, per doctor's orders, Matt
was asked to take 7 days off any strenuous
activity, and dirt racing, as everyone who
has ever been around it knows, can irritate
the eyes. However, Matt is too powerful
and stubborn of a lad to let a scratched
cornea stop him. With a good pair of goggles,
he went from last to first -- trapping Tim
Galletta and Chris Stevens behind early
leader Joe Sereno -- to win our special
Tuesday Night Delight. And as any of the
212
different drivers who have raced against
Matt (between 2000-2011) at Galletta's Greenhouse
Backyard Speedway and the 39
different drivers who have raced against
him at Oswego Kartway (between 2006-2008)
knows, he always capitalizes on even the
slightest mistake and almost always gets
to the front, even with the same motor (or
less of one in some cases)! He holds the
wins and points on both tracks in the gas
flathead division, and will likely never
ever be caught in the all-time rankings
of both tracks. Good race for sure, but
c'mon now... it's getting a little boring.
Too bad that in all of Central New York,
we have yet to find a driver anywhere who
can beat him. We have an open challenge,
and have had one for years. We see the results.
Now let's review the race: [RACE

Backyard Karting Speedway saw another 60-lap
race night. Yep, that's right, sixty 15-17
second green flag laps for one division. Jeff
Tetro took the 1st feature, again holding
off Matt by a nose at the stripe like he did
a few weeks ago, but Matt roared back to take
the 2nd 30-lapper after the track developed
bumps in turn 2 and Matt survived to take
his 5th of the season.

JULY
24TH, 2011: Every week it seems
as we say, "What a great race! Close,
fast, competitive and clean!" Well,
we had another one, as 10 competitors
battled it out during the 55-lap feature
on July 24th, 2011. One of the original
members of the GKC, Brian Galletta led
early, challenged by Melissa Stevens and
Jeff Tetro. But Tetro got the pass on
a good restart and looked tough to catch
until Matt Stevens worked his way to 2nd
to test Jeff. They battled through lapped
traffic, even splitting it 3-wide more
than once. And although Matt nearly got
him three of four times, Jeff snipped
(or is it nipped?) Matt at the finish
line for the closest finish of the year!
As Russ Bartlett said, "Those last
few laps were worth the price of admission!"
Good show, and finally, we got to double-digits
in 2011! Thanks to all who raced and congrats
to Jeff!12/1/2010 Update: YOUTUBE VIDEO is available now!
7/17/2011: 60-Lap Night (Twin-30s Again!)

JULY
17TH, 2011: The undisputed
winningest karter in Central New York
did it again. Matt Stevens won the 2nd
Twin-30 of the night, leading all 30
laps, but did so by actually coming
in last in the first 30-lapper, which
was won by his cousin Tim Galletta.
60 laps of racing only saw 1 caution
for one spinout. Clean, competitive
racing from green to checker. Come back
later today and again all week for more
updates. Also, we are looking at Saturday
race for next weekend to get more drivers
(per request of some drivers who WILL
come opposed to leaving Sundays open
for a few drivers who used to
and might come, but don't anymore),
as so far this season, 7-9 drivers per
class a week may be cool beans for gyno-exam
seat cookie-cutter kart kiddie track
classes, but it is not how grown men
(and woman) drivers like to race. Contact
us and more will be posted soon.

7/10/2011: 50-Lap Feature

JULY
10TH, 2011: Seven competitors
battled it out on 7/10/2011, and although
we have had the smallest summer fields
in our recent history, the racing
is as close and exciting as ever,
and perhaps cleaner. Where else can
you see open-wheel go-karts race side-by-side,
sometimes three-wide, and race clean
and run 50 laps (plus 8 lap heats)
with barely a caution all evening?
Sure, Matt Stevens won, but it wasn't
easy. Polesitter Jeff Tetro looked
like the winner early (but had a blown
drive tire), Tim Galletta looked poised
to win (but pitted to adjust tire
pressure), and late leader Joe Sereno
had a half-track lead, but a caution
and then traffic did rookie in, as
Matt - who himself had to fight off
his brother the whole race - snuck
by him in a pack of 7 karts bottled
up wheel-to-wheel to barely pick up
the win. Jeff Tetro and Tim Galletta
won the heats. Several race-ready,
feature-winning karts again sat idle
without drivers, and it is easier
for Matt to pick off a seven or eight
drivers and win than it is for him
to do so with ten to fifteen drivers.
So we need more -- come on out! So
if you are sick of seeing Matt win
so much, then do something about it
and race him like the rest of us active
GKC drivers are doing. If you did,
you'd see why he's the most winningest
driver in the area. Weighed down,
same motor as everyone else, older
chassis than anybody else, starts
in last almost every week... and he
still triumphs. Racing more expensive
karts on kiddie tracks doesn't mean
you're a better driver. Just means
you're afraid. Yes, that does mean
local racers who read this page, can
race with us, but never show up on
race day. Read more: [RACE

SUNDAY,

June 3rd, 2011 show. In fact, so
far this season, we had some of
the most fun and clean racing that
we've had in years, with today's
show being possibly the best yet!
Tim Galletta and Chris Stevens debuted
new motors and were flying. But
Tim had an accident in lapped traffic
while leading the 1st 35-Lapper,
enabling Chris Stevens to take the
lead and the win, with Matt pressuring
him. Tim also was leading late in
the 2nd 35-Lapper, but a bump knocked
his foot off the gas, which enabled
Matt Stevens (this time pressured
by Chris) to sneak by him for the
win of the 2nd Feature, as fireworks
cracked downtown in Oswego.

Our club races every Summer Sunday afternoon starting the first Sunday in June and race on every weekend through October (once every Friday, Saturday or Sunday until the weather/track conditions/driver interest stops us) annually in back of Galletta's Greenhouse.
|
|
In addition to every Summer Sunday, we also often switch up to Friday or Saturday in the Fall, or have Monday or Tuesday rain-date nights depending on weather and driver attendance. We race qualifiers and a 45-Lap feature most weeks, but change up to occasional Twin-30s or the occasional 50+ Lapper. All races count for points and are tallied at the end of each season to determine the track champion. The season concludes with the 200-Lap Galletta's Karting Klassic in late-September or early-October. Our club is free to watch and free to join, and runs 100% off donations (gas, parts, lights, money, karts, paint, time, etc.) of the racers. We run primarily 5hp Briggs Flathead motors with shaved heads, select (and often) non-slapper race cams and stock "Fun Power" carbs. We allow other motor types to run with us, but not effect out points chase (you must have our kind of motor to count in our points race). You can race a Galletta's Team Kart for a nominal gas & parts donation, or race your own. We will help you either way, whether it be using a Galletta-kart or building one for yourself. We're not in this to make money and we're not in it to further a career in racing, so we don't have the goal of stomping all competitors at all costs like most pay tracks do. We are in this to have fun racing with friends and family being mini-superstars having fun on our lil' website and YouTube videos for as little money as humanly possible. Sound good? Join us!

Come on out and
race! See why, despite
with zero funds or
publicity (other than
our website, videos,
and word of mouth),
we put on the best
races for the buck,
period. See why occasional
big track drivers
over the years try
it out and say that
they have more fun
racing our karts than
their big expensive
race cars (stress
of doing well, money
involved, cutthroat
competition), and
how since our karts
are so highly equalized,
that it's racing at
it's purest form and
without big dollar
BS and politics. You
will NOT be outspent
or cheated against
in our class, and
you will not be screwed
by cheaters. We oversee
it all to ensure that
will not happen, and
the same cannot be
said for pay tracks
or big car tracks.
If you are a cheat,
stick with pay tracks,
as we don't want your
kind here. If you
have the skill, you
will be competing
for wins. If you don't...
well, enough said.
2010 Season Track & Klassic Champions
Chris Stevens wins the 2010 Oswego Dirt Gas Flatheads Track Championship by 1/2 point over his brother Matt Stevens, while local Quarter-Midget Legend and Undisputed Methanol Karting Champ Kyle Reuter takes the 16th Annual 2010 Galletta's Klassic 200, the 1st non-founding member to win the annual event! Congrats to Kyle, who is a talented driver and a fun guy to race with! One of the best races in our history - but almost every Galletta's Klassic 200 is!

THE 15TH ANNUAL
GALLETTA'S KARTING
KLASSIC 200:
2010 Season, Event #18 - Saturday, October 2nd, 2010 - A 14-competitor 200-lapper was in store for the 15th Annual Galletta's Karting Klassic 200-Lap Championship, which also doubles as the season Points Finale and again did not disappoint as a close, competitive, fiery race with a lot of drama. At the end, however, it was the intrepid- Kyle Reuter, racing his 1st Feature at Galletta's since the 2007 Klassic, emerged from the marathon race on top in the Galletta's Greenhouse #0 kart. He became 1st visiting driver to ever win a Galletta's Go-Kart Klassic (Matt Stevens won 10, Chris won 3, and Wes won 1)! Point-leaders Chris and Matt -- while running 2nd and 3rd late -- tangled together and had to go to the rear, and then-leader Gary Miller Sr. started slowing down, which led Kyle - who did lead over 100 laps early before having to change karts due to a sputtering motor - to take the lead late and not look back. There were many battles and tremendous racing from 1st lap to last. Everyone at Galletta's would like to thank everyone who was at the cookout and all of the drivers, and also congratulate Kyle on a great race. Pics, points and and descriptions up, & videos within the next few weeks as I get caught up. Now, the points for the 2010 Galletta's Season are finalized, and Chris Stevens narrowly edged his brother Matt by 0.5 points for the closest margin in our 15 year track history!.
