All drivers on this list raced exclusively gas 5hp-flathead motors with Galletta's-legal limited modifications at Galletta's Go-Kart Speedway & Oswego Kartway. This list does not include those that used different motors that ran with us at Oswego Kartway (A small handful of drivers used gas OHV 6.5hp-appearing "Animal" motors - and self proclaimed themselves "Outlaws" - were removed from this list after it was determined that it is unfair to force 5hps to race against such larger motors, and, in turn, these "Outlaws" determined that one of the 5hps were too light for them to beat. Since it was so cold, we skipped our usual Fall Challenge Twin-30s for a regular 45-Lapper. And it was Wavin' Nicholas Dann who passed both Larry Phillips and Gary Miller after they broke chains, and then held off the Chris and Matt Stevens to get his 2nd Feature win in two Feature races in the Galletta's #7! A hot kart that is, as Buddy Cottom dominated several late Summer races in the kart as well as Nick. Matt was weighed down 30 lbs. as a test for our weight rule which we will institute next season, but it made no difference as he was still all over the place making fantastic moves in his Galletta's #33. It was a furious 4-way battle for the lead between Gary, Chris, Matt, and Nick for most of the way, with Nick coming out on top! More. FALL CHALLENGE TWIN-30s at GALLETTA'S on OCTOBER 24th, 2008:
Yet another Fall Challenge Twin-30 Race Night was held on Friday, October 24th, 2008, as they are very popular with all active drivers because it gives a reset and a chance for potentially two winners per night. On a special Friday Night show (to avoid the predicted rainfalls on the weekend), Chris Stevens won the first 30-lapper in his trusty old Galletta's #5, and Nick Dann won the second; his first feature ever at Galletta's to add to his first feature ever at Oswego earlier in the year, and it comes in the Galletta's #7. This means 6 Feature winners in 6 Fall races at Galletta's, everybody within a kart's length of each other, tons of clean passing attempts, and very few cautions! Can't get any closer and cleaner competition than that! And no weighing down winners, no allowing bigger motors, everybody having a GREAT time, and no whining and fighting either! Wow! FALL CHALLENGE TWIN-30s at GALLETTA'S on OCTOBER 19th, 2008:
While the Summer Series (June-September) is where the majority of your points and victories are earned, but the Fall series has traditionally proved to see some of the most competitive races of the year, and often new winners. This cold night proved no different. Melissa Gabel led from start to finish to win the 1st 30-Lapper, and Dick Dann passed Larry Phillips late in the race to score the 2nd 30-Lapper. With all veterans in both races, we only had 1 caution in 60 green laps. More here.
FALL CHALLENGE TWIN-30s at GALLETTA'S on OCTOBER 12th, 2008:
The track was perhaps better than it has been all year as the clay with tons of grip, and very little breaking up. A case could be made that Gary Miller deserved to win both features, as he led late in the first (passing Matt, Chris, and Russ), and led all but the final lap in the 2nd. But the first feature saw Russ Hockey FINALLY get his first feature win by leading most of the event, holding off Matt and Chris Stevens when Gary dropped out. The 2nd feature then saw Gary lead the first 29 laps, holding off a hard-charging Melissa Gabel for 28 of them. However, once he got by his big brother on lap 26, Matt Stevens went from 3rd to 1st on the last lap and surprisingly stole a win from Gary and his own fiancée Melissa. Poor Gary had a strong night leading 34 of the 60 laps and no wins to show for it. But the good news is another first-time feature-winning driver! Congrats to Russ Hockey, who proves "Outlaw" types wrong and shows that you can win in a 5hp flathead once you get some experience under your belt! More on this page. THE 13th ANNUAL GALLETTA'S GO-KART KLASSIC 200!
At the GALLETTA'S GO-KART SPEEDWAY on a crisp and cool Sunday, September 21st, 2008, we held the The race got off to a slow start, but the 200 lap Klassic was a success. Matt Stevens again proved his mastery of karting with yet another HUGE Championship win, the biggest kart race ever at Galletta's, the Oswego area (and probably everywhere else), proven by the large amount of karters who won't even try to race him. (Don't worry, we're using a minimum weight rule next season). With his performance, he clinched the 2008 Galletta's Summer Track Title to add to his Oswego Kartway 2008 Track Title, clinching the 2008 overall two-track title as well. This means Matt is undefeated in every points series that he has entered on two tracks between 2002-2008. Damn, that lad! Thanks to all who attended! The Galletta's Kart Club 2008 Volume #18 & 19 DVD set - THE 2008 GALLETTA'S KLASSIC & FALL SERIES!:

On SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, 2008, we ran another Twin-Features Event at the John J. Galletta Memorial Yard Karting Speedway. The first 35-Lapper went to Matt Stevens in his Galletta's #3 Gas Stocker. The second 30-Lapper went to Gary Miller Jr. in the Galletta's #6 Gas Stocker; his first ever win! Points standings, pictures, and descriptions are found here! Congratulations to Matthew Stevens & Melissa Gabel Stevens, who were married on Saturday, November 8th, 2008! This means 'officially' one more member of the Team Galletta's racing.
The Galletta's Go-Karting Club was founded by brothers Matt and Chris Stevens in the early 1990s when they modified yard karts for racing purposes. They are the inventors of "clockwise 5hp flathead gas stocker kart" racing, and have a 13-kart race team that includes several backup karts available to be rented and raced at both Galletta's and Oswego Speedway all summer. Invented with specifically "gas stock 5hp motor" and "Single Wheel Drive" rules so that a person doesn't have to spend thousands of dollars to race in extremely competitive racing events, the class grows in talent and competition every single year. Due to the fact that the karts are so affordable and the oldest veterans have been racing for nearly two decades, it is one of the most difficult karting divisions to win at, but yet you can be instantly competitive for just a couple hundred dollars IF you're a good driver. You can't outspend your opponent due to our gas-powered stock-only rule, so you must out-race them and out-setup them. In fact, nobody has ever defeated Matt & Chris in the open challenge: race a stock 5hp flathead and stop them from scoring 1st & 2nd in a points season. Though hundreds of people have tried in hundreds of races since the early 1990s, Chris and Matt have scored 1 & 2 every year. But it's not just them you have to race. Our regular drivers are all talented and experienced. You can prove your skills against the winningest karters in the local area AND you won't even have to spend a lot of money to get started! We dare you to try! There is no other organized race club in the area can you race your own kart for free, rent a competitive kart for $15 (for 50-60 laps on a large track), and have full points records back nearly a decade. Nothing can beat the speed and competition for the price anywhere in the world. Nearly 200 different drivers in nearly 200 events since 2000 can't be wrong.
