Now, here are pictures, descriptions, and points for this website's featured Clockwise Gas Stocker Division. Again, for those who are unfamiliar with Gas Stockers; they must run on gas, are single-wheel-drive (which is why they go the opposite direction to the other kart classes - for handling purposes), and feature two motor types (5hp Briggs & Stratton Flatheads and Briggs & Stratton 6.5hp OHVs). Both have modifications but expensive aftermarket parts are outlawed and we are self-limited to working with stock to keep prices down and kart counts up. We get incredible racing value for the money, as anybody who watches us and our more expensive methanol counterparts will agree.

OSWEGO KARTWAY GAS STOCKER KARTS 2008 WEEK THREE:
"Mighty" Matt Stevens does it again! Driving his trusty 20+ year old old backup Galletta's #3 (with his fiancée's brand new motor in its 1st race), the 1995-1998 & 2003-2007 Oswego Gas Stocker defending Champ takes both the heat and the feature on the May 30th Friday Night Lights Money Race at Oswego Kartway.

The 12-Lap Gas Stocker Heat Lineup again drew for the starting grid and had Eric Raponi #83 get really, really, really lucky and win the 1-in-10 chance of drawing the pole THREE weeks in a row!!! Just how does he do it? The odds are extremely against that! He needs to buy some lotto tickets!

Matt Stevens came from the back of the pack and amazed spectators as he bobbed and weaved through karts, and used the rarely-used outside groove to pass Joe Hayden and Chris Stevens. Matt then proceeded to battle side-by-side with Eric Raponi for several laps straight, until Eric got loose in turns turns 3/4 on the last lap and slipped enough for Matt to pull off the complete pass and the win (+20 points). Eric claimed 2nd (and scored +18 points). 3rd place was a dead-heat tie between Chris Stevens and Joe Hayden (each scoring +15 points) . 5th was almost a tie as well, except Dick Dann narrowly beat Dave Melfi to the finish line (which scored them +12 points and +10 points respectively). Oscar Berry (+9 pts.) Russ Hockey (+8 pts.) rounded out the field. Also, usual flag-man and Galletta's track regular, Mike "MC" Howell (+7 pts.)  went through the wall once and nearly twice retired with a bent tie-rod which was repaired in the pits in time for the feature.

The 35-Lap Feature was started off in Oswego Kartway's usual inverting the heat's finish from the heat winner's draw. Matt drew 3rd, which made it so the only 4 Oswego Kartway Gas Stocker Feature Winners between 2007-08 so far started 1-2-3-4 (Left). The usual handicap order inverted by 2007-08's total Oswego Gas Stocker points will resume on regular shows.  (Right) The main battle for most of the race was the same as the heat seeing Eric Raponi on the inside with his 6.5hp OHV and Matt Stevens on the outside with his 5hp Flathead for the 1st 16 laps, while Joe Hayden and Chris Stevens stayed as close as they could to try and to pick them both off. However, after Eric spun out in-between turns 3/4 again, Matt was then unchallenged for the rest of the night, though many tough but clean battles occurred behind him.

 

Final order of finish (and points scored via the Galletta's Points System) in the feature was:
1st - Matt Stevens (+96) | 2nd - Joe Hayden (+91) | 3rd - Chris Stevens (+87) | 4th - Dave Melfi (+83) | 5th - Eric Raponi (+79) | 6th - Russ Hockey (+75) | 7th - Mike "MC" Howell (+71) | 8th - Oscar Berry (+68) | and the only DNF in 9th - Dick Dann (+65). Adding the totals up below...
