GALLETTA'S KARTWAY GAS STOCKER KARTING 2008 RACE #1
 ~ June 6th, 2008 Race at John J. Galletta Memorial Kartway ~
 

The Galletta's Karting Club Speedway 2008 opener was held Sunday June 6th, and an exciting, 12-kart, 45-lap, clean, and fast-pace race! "THE CLAY HAS ARRIVED 45" was won by defending track champion Matt Stevens in his Team Galletta's #33, followed by Ryan Coleman (Galletta's #7), and Chris Stevens (Galletta's #4). The heats were won by AJ Russell (Galletta's #6), Chris Stevens (Galletta's #4), and Gary Miller (Miller #24). The clay is amazing and will only get better with more work.  Due to the new clay, slicks-only rule, and Team #11 mysteriously retiring from Galletta's races (abandoning the guys that got him into racing and bought him motors, to just get totally pwned by 6.5hp motors who spend way more money that our class does), the shows now run far more smoothly with far less cautions.

The first heat saw two 1st-time-Galletta's drivers AJ Russell (driving the Galletta's #6) and John Stepien (driving the Galletta's #0) take on the rusty but wily old veteran Fredrick Collins (driving the Galletta's #2). The win went to AJ Russell, who has, according to Buddy Cottom, " raced everything from any Indy car to now a Galletta's Kart!" Too bad he lives in NC, as he had potential to be a top-notch driver in our division.

The third heat was an exhibition of excellent driving skills, with most of the was being bumper-to-bumper and tire-to-tire. Gary Miller (Miller #24) was able to squeak out a close win over Buddy Cottom (Galletta's #1), Dick Dann (Dann #86), and the master of Gas Stocker karting, Matt Stevens, had to settle for last (in the Galletta's #33).

During the twelve kart feature, Early leader Gary Miller was taken out by Freddy Collins, whose tire-to-tire brush popped Gary's drivewheel tire.
 

However, the worst wreck of the night saw John Stepien spin and Melissa Gabel clobbered the prone #0 and bend up the Oswego Money-Race-Winning Galletta's #3 for the night.

The best battle of the night was Ruyan Coleman, Matt Stevens, Chris Stevens, and Dick Dann work through the field to get to the lead (even seeing Matt bump his brother to get by him). Matt was able to barely get by Ryan Coleman for the win, and Chris and Dick Dann gave many valiant but failed attempts to get Ryan. All in all, a smooth and great race from start to finish.
