Welcome!
We are a Karting Club that invented and races extremely affordable 5hp
flathead, Single Wheel Drive "Gas stocker" karts for a Points
championship every summer at Galletta's
Greenhouse Karting Speedway and a traveling points show at other local
area tracks when invited and allowed our own division. Hybrid between
a WKA flat-kart (similar speeds, but far less cost) and a yard kart (but
much stronger and faster than one) and built to race anywhere (backyard
speedways or race facilities) - the cheapest competitive karting series
in the world! We
also have recorded weekly dirt karting classes in the Oswego area and
make them available on DVD!
Galletta's Karting Club - 2009 Season, Week
7: The Gas Flathead Championship Series of Oswego, NY continued on Monday, July
27th, 2009 at John J. Galletta Memorial Speedway (Raindate for
Sunday, the 26th):
This has been the closest season of
racing so far in Galletta's Backyard Speedway history. We have
9 different winners in 10 features so far this season
at Galletta's, with the
racing bumper-to-bumper throughout, and the points race is closer
than ever before this far into a season. And with 15-kart event in store, the
first 30-lap feature saw Nick Dann emerge as the winner of the first
30-lapper in the Galletta's #0. It also saw Fred Collins flip. The
2nd 30-lap feature saw Fred come back from his flip and shake it off
to take his first ever feature win in the Galletta's #9! Five years
of winless racing, wild accidents, and close calls of getting into
victory lane falling short finally paid off for Fred!
(Above) DVD menu of this week's race. For
this race, Dick Dann, whose work takes him out of weekly competition,
was allowed to experiment with methanol and a methanol raptor carburetor
on a trial basis. Under Galletta's rules, both are illegal, but since
Dick is not in the thick of the points race, he ran it. He still earned
points just like if he had a stock carburetor and gas, but everybody
else scored points as if he wasn't there. As it was, he was very close
in speed to the rest of the pack. With his weight, we have considered
allowing a raptor carb with gas and his Dyno 94-SS, so more
experimentation will have to be made. AT Galletta's, we enforce rules to
make the speeds and competition equal and affordable, which does mean
drivers over certain weight can be allowed some things that lighter
divers cannot, provided that all are approved by Matt, Chris, and a
majority vote of all active regular drivers.
The first feature saw
Fred Collins hold off a fast Kelly Miller in the Galletta's #7, until
Kelly spun and a rookie cracked him enough to bend his brake. Fred then
took the Galletta's # 9 and dominated until Gary Miller caught him
snoozing on a restart. Fred, however, passed Gary back, but then
unfortunately Fred got loose collected Gary. Fred, undeterred, came
flying back up through the pack, until he took a wild flip while trying
to pass Melissa Stevens (left). Chris Stevens and Jason Mills made it up
to 3rd and 4th, but the Galletta's #2 and 8 hooked bumpers and that took
them out of contention. Chris hopped into the abandoned #4, as the 8's
brake was destroyed, and he was driving without one for 20+ laps - and
still got into 3rd!. The rest of the race was then Nick Dann holding off
Buddy Cottom, Dick Dann, and Matt Stevens (right).
July

13th. Unpaid Rookie #3 (Galletta's #4; DNF)
14. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00; DNF)
15th. Kelly Miller (Galletta's# 7; DNF) * = Because
of Dick's methanol - which
was allowed because he is not in the points race - although he scored 3rd place points, technically, everyone else
was scored as if he wasn't there due to his experimentation with
methanol fuel during a race (everyone behind him also scored one spot up).
As I stated last week, Fred Collins has been racing with us at
Galletta's since the 2004 Fall Series. But never once did had he been
able to find that elusive checker. Flips, wheels falling off, sore hip,
trips into the "buckwheat" were all his foes. Not tonight. Flyin' Freddy
won his first feature race in the Galletta's #9, passing Larry Phillips
early and holding off some of the most experienced and victorious past
winners Chris Stevens, Jason Mills, Melissa Stevens, Dick Dann, and Matt
Stevens. Everybody
was thrilled with Fred, as he has been trying to get one longer than
anybody else. Chris was in the Galletta's #4 because the #8's brake, and
may re-adopt it for his backup because it is fast. Matt Stevens lost a
tire while challenging for 3rd in the Galletta's #3, so he hopped in the
poor Galletta's #1, which is often said to be the slowest/worst handling
Galletta's Kart. Not so for Mighty Matt behind the wheel. He almost got
back up to 4th, but with limited time, his wife Melissa held him off and
he had to settle for 6th.

NOTE: All karts are 1-WD and all Motors are 1-WD 5hp Gas Flatheads with Stock '90s Carb, shaved head, and select pre-approved Dyno Racing Cams
(different weight requires different ones allowed). This means fast, equal speeds and, cheater-free engine-builders, all for low prices.
7 winners in 8 features so far this season (all with 2-14 years
experience racing these karts) cannot be wrong.
