Welcome! We are a Karting Club that invented and races extremely affordable 5hp flathead, Single Wheel Drive "Gas stocker" karts for a Points championship every summer at Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Speedway and a traveling points show at other local area tracks when invited and allowed our own division. Hybrid between a WKA flat-kart (similar speeds, but far less cost) and a yard kart (but much stronger and faster than one) and built to race anywhere (backyard speedways or race facilities) - the cheapest competitive karting series in the world! We also have recorded weekly dirt karting classes in the Oswego area and make them available on DVD!
Galletta's Karting Club - 2009 Season, Week
8: The Gas Flathead Championship Series of
The Planet continued on
Monday,
August 3rd, 2009 (Raindate for Sunday, the 2nd) at John J. Galletta Memorial Speedway:
Our
SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd, 2009
show
was postponed to Monday due to rain, as you can see
Russ tried to go, but to no avail (yes, that
lake really was
our turn 2 Sunday). Talk about "real" racing!
Melissa Stevens picked up her
third career feature win on Monday -
"THE SHOVELER DIDN'T MAKE IT
60" - and this makes her the
10th different winner in 11 feature races this season
at Galletta's. Plus, the top
3 in points are sure to be even closer after the points are
tallied. Also, apparently,
some cowardly, illiterate, raving lunatic madman from the
Oswego Kartway mocked us, personally attacked me, and was allegedly plotting to come on up and crack
all of our skulls in with a sharpened shovel! Joy! But,
wait... he didn't show. Must've been some belligerent, drunk,
pot-smoking, worker's-compensation fraud, hotheaded redneck,
embezzling, gangster-wanna'-be confirmed cheat at the Oswego
Kiddie Clique Fartway.
Melissa
started from her handicap position on the pole and drove hard.
Her trademark dirt track drifting in the turns nearly cost her
the lead on several occasions when she nearly spun, but she
successfully held off several challenges from Larry Phillips,
Gary Miller, and - for more than half the race -points-leader
Chris Stevens. In fact, Chris racked up many points, as he was in 2nd for 37 laps until the
final-lap restart where Russ Hockey caught him sleeping and got
a great run on him, shuffling Chris into the slower line, and
Buddy Cottom followed Russ through. Buddy Cottom had a lot of
rough luck when the #6, 1, and 2 all failed him in mid-pack, but
finally, the #5 got him up to 3rd on the final circuit. Plus,
you know what? Despite TWO people flipping the lap
counter and doing the flags (Ogre and Colin), we still had raced
TEN EXTRA LAPS over
our intended 50 (which we all raced to on the lap counter). So,
the points were adjusted for a 60-lap event. Ah, a mistake which
made us all extra points! :)
August 3rd, 2009
60-Lap Finish: 1st. Melissa Stevens (Stevens #80)
2nd. Russ Hockey (Hockey #00)
3rd. Buddy Cottom (Galletta's #6,
1, 2, 5)
4th. Chris Stevens (Galletta's #4)
5th. Matthew Stevens
(Galletta's #3, 7) 6th.
Larry Phillips (L&K Engine #04)
7th. Dan Woodard (Woodard #5 = **)
8th. Fred Collins (Galletta's #9)
9th. Gary Miller
(Miller #24, Galletta's #0; DNF)
** = Dan Woodard used a stock 6.5hp OHV motor. Under normal
circumstances, OHVs are allowed to run, but his placement had no change
to the gas flathead points race. Just
like Dick Dann the previous week who experimented with methanol, Dick
and Dan
scored points, but nobody else was affected points-wise. It would be
great for Dan to come out on a regular basis with a gas flathead, and
Matt can work with them to get them to the perfect speed - which is the
same as everybody else, or if more stock 6.5hp OHVs came back, they
could have their own separate class, or race in our class counting
points and wins separately.
NOTES: All karts are 1-WD and all Motors are 1-WD 5hp Gas Flatheads with Stock '90s Carb, shaved head, and select pre-approved Dyno Racing Cams
(different weight requires different ones allowed). This means fast, equal speeds and, cheater-free engine-builders, all for low prices.
Two karts so far this season were not gas flatheads (a methanol
flathead with raptor carb and a gas stock 6.5hp OHV), and they
scored their full points but their placement did not penalize anybody else with
the same gas flathead motor, who were scored as if the other
motored kart was not there.
NEW CHANGE IN THE POINTS THIS WEEK: Also, we have not been docking points for drivers hopping
into an unused backup karts after their starter kart breaks
during a race. Since Matt demanded this, the points this week are adjusted to penalize -5 pts. per
first kart switch (and -1 point per additional kart switch in
the same race), and -10 points for a medium/light driver switching into a
"heavy handicap kart" (the #7 and #0 if you are under 200
lbs.). Oddly, although Matt demanded the rule to be enforced
- and we had to go back and dock points for every kart switch so
far this season - Matt lost the most points (-25), then Buddy
(-12), then Chris and Gary (-10 each), and then finally Russ and
Nick (-5 each). Henceforth, we will re-enact the rule,
which was in use for the past two seasons.
The Galletta's Kart Club 2009 Volume #8 DVD: Two camera angles of the races held on

Over 1 hour in highest-quality resolution. 16:9 Anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround, and two camera angles of all of the action.
